Retirement- It’s Yours So Buid Wisely!

"It takes time to develop, grow and build the life you want. So give your retirement dreams the time they deserve and watch them become reality." - A Wise Man

Each week as I prepare to write my “Investing In You” articles for Wednesday’s Business section of The Nassau Guardian, I realize more and more that of all the coaching and seminars I conduct, the ones on “Retirement Planning” have the potential to touch and transform more lives than all the others combined. Because in one way or the other you are touched by retirement. Either you are giving care and support to someone who is in retirement, or know of others that are doing so. And eventually, you will be in retirement.

You will agree that no matter which group you find yourself in, one way or the other we all are touched by money.  And when you think about it more relationships break up over money than over any other reasons combined!

Therefore, in order to have any success in your life, you MUST learn how to manage your money.

4 Way Financial Coaching is Just Like Braces

"The way to get started is to stop talking and start doing."- Walt Disney

"I've got braces" is what my son Rashad changed his screen name to on his return from the Orthodontist. He was all excited to let his friends know of the change that had taken place. This change was the result of the work done by Dr. Barry Russell and his fine assistants including Joy earlier in the day. But it was only the start and he knew it as his face grimiest with pain and shock as they stretched and pulled and put yucky stuff in his mouth, all in preparation for the appliances.

As I watched, I realized that a lot of work goes into creating straight teeth and beautiful smiles. Not only is it work but also for Rashad the journey will take at least 22 months, a few oral surgeries and a lot of discipline. You see on the way to those straight and beautiful pearlies, he has to give up a lot of his favorite snack foods. His face showed the concern as he was told that he would not be able to eat nuts (he and I enjoy shelling and eating walnuts and pecans), chocolate bars, popcorn or white bread. He would also now have to brush his teeth not twice a day but for 3 minutes after each meal or snack. This meant his toothbrush was becoming his constant companion. He would also have to floss every night.

All of these changes could be overwhelming for anyone much less a teenager, but it's what is required to ensure the proper maintenance of the braces and teeth during this transition.

Harmonizing Your Love & Money

"The greatest weakness of most humans is their hesitancy to tell others how much they love them while they're still alive."- Unknown

February is Special - It is Heart month! And the two big eventscelebrated this month are the Heart Ball and Valentine's Day both are valuable expressions of Love

Valentine's Day honor its patron the Italian priest Saint Valentine and is celebrated by exchanging tokens of affection. As you exchange candies, flowers or whatever is your heart's way of expressing this feeling don't forget to help those who were unfortunate to have started out with a broken heart, the kids for whom the Heart Ball hosted by the Sir Victor Sassoon Heart Foundation is their biggest fund raiser.

So this month be sure and use these opportunities to affect the life of your love ones and those around you in very special ways!

And although you may be madly in Love and planning on having anexciting time with the one you love this Valentine's Day, you must admit that there are very few combinations more perplexing than love and Money. In fact, the only more perplexing combination is expecting two persons from different social, religious, professional and economical backgrounds to come together and create a successful marriage.

Even you had your doubt and didn't think the couple at the last wedding you attended stood a chance at creating a successful life together.

Let's look at the combination, it usually goes like this- she is a professional; he is not - But that's love! While he is spending all the money he can get his hands on, she is stretching her dollar so that she can do and save as much as she can.

This coupled with the fact that whiles your bodies may experienceintimacy, your goals and money usually don't. You feel that even inmarriage your money is still single and nobody's business but yours. Not a good recipe for success.

That's why money or should I say the lack of money is among the leading contributors to divorce and it is little wonder, because financial decisions so often are charged with emotions that goes well beyond the money.

Retirement- You Don't Want To Be "S.O.B"

"Let others leave their future to chance and in someone else's hands, but not you." - A Wise Man

Have you noticed how many persons have a cough these days? I hadn't until my recent trip to West Palm Beach. At the conference, I begin to realize that there were lots of persons coughing. There was coughing everywhere, in the mall, in the restaurants, in the hotel's hallways and in the elevators. But what stood out to me was the plane ride back, ten of the fourteen passengers on board were coughing and before I knewit I was coughing.

The unfortunate thing is that most of us including me don't usually take a cough seriously. But this all change for me when I read a recent Newsweek article which indicated that 60,000 American men die each year from lung related diseases such as Emphysema and Chronic Bronchitis.

All of which are treatable but as you know we men just don't takecoughing seriously and by the time we seek medical treatment it's too late. So if you or a love one has a cough get it checked as soon as possible!

Another mistake most persons are making is not taking their retirement planning seriously! This is the worst mistake you can make about your retirement. Even if you are a very young, your retirement plan should be a serious priority. By starting early, you can take control of both your health and financial future and be able to retire early.

4 Mistakes You Should Avoid Making With Your money!

“If hard work and dedication were all it took to become wealthy, our grandparents would have been millionaires!”- A Wise Man

You work hard each day focusing your energies on ensuring that you do the best possible job for your employer but what about the job you are doing for yourself financially?

You have heard it over and over again that if you just “get a job and work hard you will become successful.”  Well “if hard work and dedication were all it took to become wealthy, our grandparents would have been millionaires!”

The fact is working hard is WORTHLESS - unless you know how to manage your hard earned money!

The truth is no matter how much time, effort and dedication you invest in your job or business, you will never achieve the success you deserve – unless you know how to take control of your money!

Look around you and you will see persons who have worked hard all their life and today have absolutely nothing to show for all their efforts -despite earning a fortune during their working years.

The question to ask is, “Do I want to be in the same state as they are in when my working years are over?”  Unfortunately, your fate will be no different if you continue to make the same mistakes.
